mkschultz 0 Posted September 7, 2002 I just got a pelican 1550 case w/ pick 'n' pluck foam. To save room in the case, should I put the camera inside the underwater housing or should I pluck out two separate slots? Thanks in advance. -- Mark
Tio Loco 0 Posted September 7, 2002 everything I've ever read says don't put your camera in the housing during travel. The 1550 is too big to carry on, so you're gonna be checking it. You probably want to carry your camera in something else that you can carry on... at least that is what most seem to do. Richard
scorpio_fish 5 Posted September 7, 2002 The 1550 will make it as a carry-on on large planes. I've had to check it as I've boarded on smaller commuter planes as it will not fit in the overhead compartment. If your housing is completely air tight, do not fully close it and remove the o-ring before placing in the case. The pressure change will make it impossible to open upon arrival. I don't put my camera in the case, but in a separate carry-on.
sethgold 0 Posted September 8, 2002 What is the general objection to packing a camera in its housing?
tshepherd 0 Posted September 11, 2002 In my housing, the camera is held in place largely by a screw into the tripod mount. My concern is that the threads on the camera itself would not be up to the task of the holding the camera in place during transit. I doubt that I can easily replace the threads in the event they fail, so I figure, why take the chance? Just my $0.
