eagleray 0 Posted September 11, 2002 Need help here. I use the olympus wide angle lens with the supplied step-up ring for the pt-012 Think i over tighten the step-up ring and now it does not want to come off from the lens. Anyone has any idea how to best to remove it? 1. Was considering dipping the ring portion into hot water But was afraid that the heat might destory the glass element 2. does stuff like wd-40 helps? is it corrosive to any part of the lens? Thanks
Mr_Mike 0 Posted September 11, 2002 But the lens comes off the camera, right? Put the lens in a bright sunny spot for an hour or so. Try to take off the ring. Put the lens in the fridge for an hour. Try to take off the ring. Use a rubber strap wrench. (or leather belt). Wrap around the step up ring and use that for extra leverage.
Mr_Mike 0 Posted September 11, 2002 ALso.... Hot water would likely damage the ring. If you were to try this. Boil some water and put it in a bowl and let it settle down. Place only the edge of the step up ring in the water. Since its aluminum, no need to soak the whole step-up ring. It will heat up fast enough. After about 20 seconds, try to remove the ring. If not, another 20 seconds or so. After that, the ring has expanded as much as its going to and will be conducting heat into the rest of the lens. DO NOT soak the entire lens! Besides, you want the lens to be cool and the ring hot. WD-40 will probably not help. Next time you install the ring, use a little silicone grease. And a little less hand pressure.
