POTW

I know that some of you are pissed that I temporarily have removed an interactive version of the POTW, but it would still be great to get some participation. I believe that I've received only 4 entries in the last week, and someone even called the new area a "disaster," which I think is a little harsh (but she hated everything about the new design, anyway). It isn't that hard to attach an image to an e-mail message, and calling it a disaster means that you didn't even look at the area, which is pretty easy to understand.

I think there are two reasons for the lack of participants:

 

1) We cannot see the current entries;

 

2) There is no specific topic like there used to be.

I also think that since the incentive (prize) has been removed, it may be harder for people to care about POTW since we are used to having someting tangible to work for.

 

Also, an automatic e-mail response would be great too - I sent in a picture on Monday, but I don't know if it was received since we can't view the current entries.

Response could be due to "out of sight...out of mind"

 

The current winner's image should be displayed on each page for added interest...IMHO

thanks, guys. I've added an autoresponder for confirmations.

 

It's hard to show the current POTW on the forum page. It always shows up on the front page, wihch is where most people hit the site, first. It's just the forum-only people who don't see it, I think.

 

As for prizes -- there has never been an entry fee, and there were consistent prizes being offered. I'd like to get back to that point, but it will take time.

 

In the meantime, I'd like to thank those of you who have been polite about everything for your kind and helpful words.

Personally, I miss the previous format for POTW. As a relative newbie to underwater photography, I found the images fascinating. The ability to view multiple pictures and the settings data that people were using to obtain different effects helped me tremendously. I was able to improve my own images by experimenting with this information and shortened the learning curve. Seeing the best entries each week made me really critique my own pictures. Just my 2 cents worth.

Thanks for your feedback -- I understand that the old format is missed. Again, this is a temporary situation, and will hopefully be resolved sometime this summer.

I think I am missing something when trying to view the current POTW contest. All I see is "POTW 71" without a topic listed (currently with just one shot of a turtle). Are topics gone and the current contest is just a weekly best shot from those submitted for that week?

Hey Eric,

 

For me the POTW is nice to see how others are lighting and composing. I am one who likes to study others' work so that I might apply some new thought process next time I am diving. It's be nice if we could view the pics just for peursal purposes.

 

The site is great BTW. I like not losing the NEW POSTS, and always being logged in.
