DavidG 1 Posted March 11, 2005 Hi everyone, I have been doing a lots of research about the Subal D10 housing. I thought about getting a new Subal housing for my Nikon D100 but I got an offer for a second hand D10 , about two years old for 2000$ ( No ports ) I am asking for sugestions because I don,t have any experience with subal housings but I know that there are very strong. My thought if you think that it will be safer to get a new one that there are about 3150$ and you getting 2 years warranty I find quite hard to buy things on the internet and more when you are in the Turks & Caicos and far from and photo store. Can you guys give me some advice B) Thanks David
Kasey 0 Posted March 11, 2005 These housings are rugged! Assuming that the electricals are in good shape (no unsserviced flood) I think you have little to worry about. Maybe have Dave overhaul it prior to buying and you should be good to go. I bought my Seacam with HEAVY use on it - I've had a few minor issues with wear on specific controls but I was able to make the repairs/adjustments and it was well worth the savings. UWPhotoTech 0 Posted March 11, 2005 This housing is being sold by one of my customers. I serviced this housing last fall and it has not been used since, it's in pristine conditon. It was taken on their recent trip to indonesia but only as a backup. So it's well travelled but not heavily used. They use Light & Motion Titan D100's as their main housings. I would not worry about not getting a two year warranty. We are the USA Warranty Service Center for Subal. The only warranty issues we've seen have been for minor design changes on newly released housings.
cor 0 Posted March 12, 2005 Hi David, I have a Subal D10 and have been doing about 200 dives a year with it. They are extremely rugged. Inside the housing, there is very little that can be a problem. Something could be broken inside, or the bulkhead (strobe connector) could have flooded. Reading UWPhotoTech's response though, none of that is the case, so you'll be getting a housing for $2000 thats just as good as a brand new one. My wife recently bought a several years old Subal N10 (very similar housing) and besides some scratches it was fine. Cor
