Y-sync leads.

Recommended Posts

Getting confused. The Sea&Sea Duo strobe is supposed to work with Nikonos and Sea&Sea. But the pin pattern on my strobe matches neither. The pin pattern is 5 pins in an arc (not a full circle like Nikonos). Does the y-lead take care of the pattern change from Nikonos to duo strobe, or alternatively Sea&Sea (4-pin) to duo strobe? Or have I got the most messed up understanding of these systems. How much do these leads cost? Best place to buy them? and last but not least what are the main advantages to using them rather than let the wireless YS-90 work things out for itself? ;)

There are separate synch cords for Sea & Sea and Nikonos types in both Y and Single cords. So for a Sea & Sea camera you use a Sea & Sea type cord and for a Nikonos type camera or housing you use a Nikonos (N5) type.

Mark, what is the strobe you're actually asking about, all DUO strobes that i know to have the circular arrangement of the pins, you simply add you choosen sync cord either S&S or nikonos, each are wired differently.

Are you talking about a YS60/s (older model by anychance) that has had the Cord removed ?

I think you maybe a little messed up with you understanding still, to clarify

The DUO series strobes are exactly that, DUO Connection, they can except either a Sync cord that is wired for Motormarine (4pin) or Nikonols (5pin). its your choice.

As for the sync cords... Your local Scubashop should be able to get hold of the items for you if they deal with Sea & Sea, or if you dont want to deal with Cameras Underwater then try Ocean Optics...prices are roughly as follows.

if they are unable to help, then i could get hold of the items for you via my supplier

Nikonos cord (5pin)

Single £59

Dual Y cord £115

Regards

Just a quick post to thank everybody for their help and advice. I now understand how Duo strobes will work both with my MMII, which I still adore, and via an OLY-TTL-IR Matthais Heinrich adaptor with my C5050 and Oly housing. :)

Now for the painful part - flashing the credit card - I am looking to buy a ys-90 duo and nikonos lead. I do not think that I can afford the dx although this appears to be best suited to the digital camera. :(

once again thanks for your help - especially Craig @ Aquaimaging
