MikeVeitch 0 Posted May 30, 2005 I have updated a couple of my galleries so that there is actually something to look at on some of them now! the galleries are http://www.bigblueimages.com/Sharks.htm and http://www.bigblueimages.com/Topside.htm Still a work in progress but there is now something to view. Going to keep each gallery at max of 35 images as opposed to the way i used to do it with lots and lots of images. Please let me know what you think Mike

kdietz 0 Posted May 30, 2005 Very nice collection....I like the schooling/feeding gray reef sharks and the hammerhead schooling shots.....I wish we could advance through the large images without going back to the index each time Karl
pmooney 6 Posted May 30, 2005 Really like the silohuetes of the rays - good work. Had one of your recent students through today - Sara ( from Guam ) says to pass on her best. She dumped the DX3100 & jumped up to a housed 7070 / YS90DX system. Thanks for the good words. Peter

shark8matt 0 Posted May 30, 2005 Mike - I was just curious as to what was the deal with the nurse shark pic - bycatch? Shak fishery? Where was this pic taken and what were the circumstances? Actually it would be awesome if you could include where your pics were taken. Great stuff though - keep it up! regards... - MP
MikeVeitch 0 Posted May 30, 2005 Thanks for the comments everyone Matt: actually that buoy, with line and hooks, just sat there off the main dock in Fakarava, French Polynesia for a quit a long time. THere are quite a few nurse sharks that would hang out in the area. When we came upon the dead nurse some kids were throwing rocks at it...stayed there for quite some time until the kids threw a big enough rock...So not sure why it was there. ANother day the locals pulled up another nurse at the dock and let it sit there on the dirt suffocating. Needless to say we grabbed it and threw it back in the water and yelled at the kids who were throwing rocks at it.... Peter: Wow, Sarah sure gets to travel a lot. Glad to see she had moved on to a much better system, that 3100 was really holding her back Mike
shark8matt 0 Posted May 31, 2005 Its a shame - just another example of the amount of ignorance still dwelling in the world and how much more work we as divers need to do to educate and promote conservation efforts. I just hope that there will still be sharks in the oceans when I give my (future) children their first underwater camera...A quick reminder to all - while pictures are indeed "frozen moments" lets continue to fight to allow those moments to keep happening. Kudos on reprimanding the kids - we need to teach them to respect and appreciate their marine resources. regards... - MP
Ponsui 0 Posted May 31, 2005 Wow! Some really cool images Mike. I really liked some of the topside stuff (the hippo and the sand dunes especially are fantastic shots!) Nice work, David.
Ana Rodriguez Blanco 0 Posted May 31, 2005 Good! At sharks gallery, I enjoied Silvertip and Diver (00064), I like the lightning here. Pics number 00101 and 00227, whith taht amazing shilouette against the blue, and both of sharks with bigeyes and soldierfishes. Topside gallery is really good too, here, the ones I like the best are Crescent Beach, Zebras and the Dunes. Congratulations
sbrady 0 Posted May 31, 2005 I agree... 'Silvertip and Diver' is an incredible picture to me.... both the diver and shark facing off, suspended in the water, suspended in time... you wonder what's going through their heads, both of them.... it kind of reminds me of a bullfighter and bull.... very nice. - Sean
