Dakine 0 Posted June 8, 2005 Anyone using the 20D in the Aquatica housing? I would like to see some pictures so I know what to expect. I've spent a lot of time browsing though this forum but couldn't find much. How does the 8inch dome perform compared to the more expensive options from subal etc? Aloha, Ryan
kriptap2 0 Posted June 8, 2005 I use it and here are the photos http://www.digitaldiver.biz I also have the 8ich dome and to compare, well it's the same size as the subal 8 inch dome but the dome shade is massive!
danschmitt 0 Posted June 9, 2005 I'm using the 10-22mm and the 100mm macro, love the 8inch dome, dome shade is a must have. Pictures after 4/25/2005 at http://lionfish.us are 20d pictures. Next night dive will be with the 50mm F1.8 (it's been a little surgey for the 100mm macro lately.)
Dakine 0 Posted June 9, 2005 Thanks Guys, very nice pictures! Great colors and lighting. How would you judge the sharpness of the dome? I can't really tell from the small samples. No need to post 100% crops just tell me it's good and I'll be happy
danschmitt 0 Posted June 9, 2005 My 10-22 is fuzzy at the corners at 10mm (it's a little fuzzy unhoused, and it seems a bit worse, but I may just be shooting closer.) If I zoom in a bit (14mm or so) the fuzzy goes away. Some of the color credit goes to the Nikonos SB104 I'm borrowing right now. Dan
famorim 0 Posted June 14, 2005 Ryan, I have some housing picts available at http://www.pbase.com/famorim/aquatica_a20 and some UW pictures using the kit lens, sigma 15mm FE and Canon 50mm Macro at http://www.pbase.com/famorim/first_aquatica. james 0 Posted June 14, 2005 Fabio, Have you used your 70-200 F4L underwater? Cheers James
famorim 0 Posted June 14, 2005 Hi James, not yet, but I will do in few days when will arrive my extension ring for the aquatica port. For while I'm doing some tests with close-up filters +3 and +4 on land. Tomorrow I will get an Kenko extension tube 12mm and I will try it to reduce the focus distance. did you get good results with this lens uw ? Regards
james 0 Posted June 14, 2005 I haven't tried it yet either. I think it will be good with a +1 diopter. Cheers James
famorim 0 Posted June 14, 2005 I did not use with +1 close-up, with +3 or +4 the AF doesn't work well. I ordered an extension tube to try to focus close wihout lost the AF. Regards
Dakine 0 Posted June 14, 2005 Thanks Fabio, It's really nice to see those detailed images of the housing. I had no idea that you could fit a 70-200 in there. Does anyone know if they make an extension long enough for the 300 f/4L IS ? (8.7x3.5) Aloha, Ryan
thatporchdawg 0 Posted June 14, 2005 Famorim, Are you using the wide-angle or the fisheye dome shade when you shoot with the Sigma 15mm fisheye? Thanks, Ken
famorim 0 Posted June 15, 2005 Hi Ken, I'm using a dome shade for fisheye lenses(#18480) without any problem. Thanks

(8.7x3.5) Aloha, Ryan <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Ryan, there are some long extension rings to Aquatica's flat port, look at that examples: #18454-3 3/4 inches #18457-2 1/4 inches #18458-3 inches Best Regards
james 0 Posted June 15, 2005 Ryan, You would not want to shoot the 300mm underwater. A better alternative would be a Sigma 150mm F2.8 w/ a 2x teleconverter. The 70-200 is the same size as the Nikon 70-180 which is easy to house in Aquatica. HTH James Wiseman
Dakine 0 Posted June 15, 2005 Yeah, I figured 300 would be a bit much underwater. (Although that lens does have a really short focus distance) I started to wonder if it would fit since I also shoot a lot of (surface) water sports and that would be a great if it could double as a splash housing. Is it possible to stack those extension rings?? What is the inside diameter of the flat port? Thanks, Ryan
