scubamarli 5 Posted June 23, 2005 Not that I tend to follow these warnings, (after all, I'm off to Indonesia soon) but this was on CNN today: http://edition.cnn.com/2005/WORLD/asiapcf/...ning/index.html Why is it the diving's so good in all of tese locations? <_< Marli
Kelpfish 15 Posted June 24, 2005 Sucks for me too. I overnight in Malaysia and have a long layover in Jakarta...next week. Joe
curtisleo 0 Posted July 1, 2005 When I was in Malaysia, everyone I spoke to said the diving down south, south-east malaysia is the best. Only problem is the seas are still roaming with pirates. You can hire a gunboat to "escort" you and provide protection while you dive. Curtis
ReefRoamer 1 Posted July 2, 2005 Just returned from UW Photo Week at Sipadan Water Village, which is on the northeast coast of Borneo in the state of Sabah, Malaysia. About 40 people from the US participated. No hint of trouble of any kind. However, police and military have a pretty visible (and comforting) presence which I suspect is designed to deter any activity that might impact the area's critical tourism industry. I suspect the Australian warning is similar to all those color-coded US warnings, which have so far proven more effective at freightening people than anything else. Honestly, I worry more about my security at the local convenience store.
Ryan 48 Posted July 2, 2005 The only time I felt at all concerned for my safety last week was when I thought I might be between ReefRoamer and a contest winning photograph. All of the people of the Sabah province that I came in contact with were incredibly friendly, and there was plenty of military firepower around to keep the fundraising pirates at bay. It the South west and west that you have to watch out for... not the East or the south east... The only priates you will encounter there are the DVD "pirates" Cheers...
