stone 0 Posted June 28, 2005 Hi! I'm using Sea & Sea D70 housing, I'm happy with the housing outlook but not with its quality. First, the flat port and FE dome port CANNOT firmly lock with the body. (there is a lock function came with the housing, but the position does not match, confirmed by the dealer). Local distributor ask me to let them pass it back to Japan, but it will take more than one month to fix the problem. Second, both the Flat port and FE dome port had some problem with the SX Extension. After diving (even just one dive), the extension is very hard to separate with ports. It is IMPOSSIBLE to separate them by myself. Sometimes I have to take back to the dealer to help me to separate them. Just want to know is it common for other brand?? Again, the local distributor said, they claim its normal case. And ask me to let them pass back to Japan to fix the problem.... Stone
erik 0 Posted June 28, 2005 I stone. I'm using DX70 and not problem like yours. First, for extension ring and ports: did you put silicon grease on orings before to use it? Is very important, if you don't have a good presence of grease on oring you may have problems to slide ports, in fact is a very important think to do and is ports or extension rings don't slide well is certainly because no enough grease is applicated. The same removing port and axtention ring, if oring is not well lubrificated (also after1-2 dive) it will be very difficult to open.... For second problem: i will check this afternoon but is strange. The lock system is the same for all Sea & Sea housing.... Good dives! ERIK
erik 0 Posted June 28, 2005 Checked the lock system. Super dome port fit very well and also lock system. Try to close well the dome port or flat port, use the OPEN and CLOSE marks to fit ports, is very important to fit the port or domes starting to apply the piece on housing using "OPEN" mark and applaing it on housing's mark, after that rotate the port till the "CLOSE" mark will be in right position (same position with housing's mark). Now you will be able to close the lock system; in case the lock system is not well aligned just move a little and gently the port till the hole of port is alighed with lock system. Maybe put more grease on orings and all thinks will be slide better, but sure don't abuse with grease, an oring well lubrificated don't have to much grease on. ssra30 0 Posted June 28, 2005 When I had theSea and Sea DX70, the locking mechanism did not work either. Aparently one piece was inserted wrong way around or upside down or something and it just took a minute to correct the problems. My other 3 buddies who bought the Sea and Sea housing also had the same problem as well.
photodiver 0 Posted June 28, 2005 I had the same problem with the lock of the Sea and Sea DX-D70 housing not engaging in any of the ports. Called Sea and Sea. They had me send it to a Aurthorized Repair Center to correct the problem. I would not use the housing without the port lock. The port could easily rotate & come loose after mounting without the lock being properly engaged.
erik 0 Posted June 28, 2005 Maybe an error mounting pieces occurred for some housing, mine is ok and very similar to S2pro Housing just smaller.. Thanks ERIK
frogmansub 0 Posted June 28, 2005 My wife & I have a DX-D100 and a DX-D70 housings and haven't experienced this. The flat ports, compact and FE dome ports and the extension ring all lock in place on both housings without any problem. The Extension ring does get a bit stiff when we remove it after a dive, but since there's no locking mechanism between the ring and the ports, I don't mind having to struggle a bit to take it off ! The only problem I have experienced is with the DX-D100 when that the back started to crack where the 4 latches were screwed. The housing went back to Sea & Sea who replaced the whole back. I know other photographers who experienced this. It might be worth making sure the latches are not held too fast on the housing body !
ageffen 0 Posted June 28, 2005 Can't really speak to the port's not mounting correctly, but I have used Sea and Sea housings for a number of years and have always had to exert myself to remove the ports to clean them. Best solution I have every found is to get a couple of inexpensive strap wrenches, wedge the housing between your knees and wrap a strap around the port and it unlocks with no effort. erik 0 Posted June 28, 2005 Hi! Ok, i have solved the problem speaking with italian delear. Now i know why you have the problem or best...i suppose where is it. Some years ago Sea & Sea changed his baionets for dome ports, flat ports and also extensions rings. Old one have the mounting mechanism maked with gray plastic, is different from new (black plastic) not only for colour but also for the position of holes and locking parts, just a little but enought to make the problem. The italian delear tell me that you can change only the baionet with new one (BLACK). Do you have used ports? :-) Thank you ERIK
stone 0 Posted June 29, 2005 Hi Erik! But all my ports and rings are new, all the parts were from authorized dealer. Thanks for everyone. I'll get this fixed and let you know what's wrong and my solution. stone
