Roulston 0 Posted August 8, 2005 Hi Y'all, has anyone got any feedback on the Sea & Sea YS-350 strobe? I am think of getting to use in a single strobe configuration with a 12-24m lens on a D100 inside a subal. Acknowledging no D-TTL with the D100, I was wondering what peoples experience advice might be. I like the inbuilt modelling light, 105 degrees is should eb enough for the 12m focal length, and the power should help as 24m. Cheers, from a freezing Canberra in Oz. NWDiver 43 Posted August 9, 2005 I have been using the duel 350 Pros for a couple of months now. For wide angle they are great. With the 10.5 and 12-24 you really have to make sure they are behind the back plane of the dome or you get bright spots in the upper corners of the shot. I don't use the modelling lights as I have a Fisheye focus light I really like.
whitehead 0 Posted August 11, 2005 I use them for WA (but to be honest not much as I don't get too much WA opportunity nor, I now realize, do I need that extra power for the shots I personnally take). If you need the power then they are good (and they are quite cheap) but I am a little dissappointed as they are a really old design and the two shell plastic construction IMHO always makes me think it would not stand a major knock. The aiming light is a small torch mounted inside the lamp which you remove and add additional batteries to which is a bit of a pain. I sort of regret buying them - because of the extra power they can do stuff my other strobes cannot but as I dont shoot much WA or other styles requiring that power they were a bit of an extravagence for me. On the other hand I dont think there is anything to rival them on cost if you need their power.
