New Subtronic Maxi for Nikon D70

Recommended Posts

Hi!

Does anyone own the new Subtronic Maxi and use it with the Nikon D70?

Any problems?

Can you share your opinion on TTL function. Is it working?

Thanks

I didn't know they were being shipped already. Are the specs posted anywhere?

Hi!

I've scaned the new english manual (Jul'05) and attached it to this post.

It's a new strobe.

I find the easiest way to understand the new subtonic range (mini, midi, maxi) is to compare them with the classic range in terms of W/S output:

Mini - 90 Ws

Midi - 160 Ws

Alpha - 160 Ws

Maxi - 200 Ws

Alpha Pro - 200 Ws

Gamma - 270 Ws

Mega - 350 Ws

Hi Carlos -

I have the Heinrichs iTTL controller installed in my D70 thanks to Ryan's efforts at reef photo. It works great! Supposedly, it is the same controller subtronics is installing in their strobes. Ryan has a few of those(subtronics strobes) as well and they are a bit more expensive than just buying the controller and using with existing strobes.

Isn't this controller supposing to be sold as an OEM only? I though that it’s impossible to buy it as stand alone and install it DIY in the housing.

I thought I came across some previous posting about Heinrichs iTTL controller only work with D70 but does not work with D2X. Is that correct? Just curious!

I am not sure why I kept thinking that this is true since both will work with SB800 so I assume both iTTL should be the same.

Arnon -

It aint an easy install. Ryan got it working no problem. Heinrichs say " it is advanced DIY " project. I bought two controllers and sent them to Ryan and he reworked one bulkhead and the controller sits atop the hotshoe. Works well with my Inon strobes. My wife shoots the d70 in TTL and I shoot the d2x in manual.

Hi Guys:

I have ordered two Subtronic Nova's on the 19th July.....was told by the spanish dealer it would take from 3 to 4 weeks to deliver...... I pre-paid 40% of my order.

Called them last week (4 weeks after payment) to ask how was everthing going on....... and I was told that my Nova's would not be ready until the end of the year!!!!

I've sold the flashes that I was using....so right now I've got no lighting.....and things look like there is going to be no solution until end of the year.

So watch out if you order from Subronic....... 3 -4 week promises that end up in >5 month waiting list with 40% pre-payment.......

Rgds

I also got the converter from Matthias. It would have been an easy install if Ikelite only had connected all the wires of the flashcable to the bulkhead. Than you only had to clamb the wire from the convertor on the right wire of the flashcable. I found it out after installing the converter and discovering that it didn't work . :)

Now you have to solder a wire into the bulkhead, there my DIY-skills ends, so I had to bring the housing to an electronics expert (it is always good to have a wide area of friends ;) ), who is now working on it.

When it is up and running, I intend to write a review.
