Nikon D200 imminent

Recommended Posts

Thanks for the shots

I was kinda expecting a FUJI S3 Body with a intergrated vertical grip....

mmmm. i do hope they have added some connectors this time to attach a vertical grip electronically, the only BONE i have with my D70.

I'm considering purchasing a D100 so i can get a dam vertical grip for when i'm land shooting as they have been reduced to £699 new here in the UK

i really dont need a D2X.. "thats my wife talking"

Are there any D100 users out there that could comment on your camera, Do you love it or hate it ?

D100 was a great camera, but in my opinion the images required too much PP to make the colors pop and the edges sharp. Perhaps a used D1x might be a better choice - sharper out of camera and brighter colors, better AF too. The prices are crashing as we speak!

Looks like the real deal. Sounds like the camera people have bee waiting for. If this camera had been announced in september as some speculated I might have been tempted to switch to nikon.

This could be the first nikon that's specs clearly best it's canon counterpart.(20D in this case)....Or....who thinks canon will yet again beat them to the punch and have a D30 shipping months before this D200 starts shipping.

The viewfinder looks kinda small, I hope I am wrong. Everything else looks great, and the 18-200 VR looks like a nice all around travel lens.

I think this is the real deal Claude, it leaked from the Nikon UK site.

Viewfinder is reputedly .86 and 100% - doesn't sound too bad Luiz. I wouldn't worry until the specs finally come out...

Anthony,

While your getting the spec's can you dig up the D200's dimensions ?

I'm sure there are lot of people eyeing their old housings off !

There is a strange switch on the back I dunno what it is for (at the bottom on the right hand side of the LCD). Any ideas?

Alex,

I may be wrong, but this switch appears to pop the compact card slot. There's no other button or switch that appears to do that, and the little diagram next to the switch seems to confirm this function.

Not very exciting then! Alex

It sure looks like a card door latch, but if you look at the shape of the card diagram it looks more like an SD card then a CF card. So perhaps the D200 will follow the D50 and be SD media.

Seems unlikely to me. On the picture of the back it clearly says CF next to the indicator light.

Hmm, it is a good thing I am holding out on buying 70-200 VR or the 55-200DX lens. Not sure if the 18-200DX VR will be as good as the 70-200VR but it looks quite a bit smaller and should make it a nice walk around lens. If it can focus to about 12 inches, it might be an interesting lens to house as well.

The front of the camera has a 10-pin connection. This is a VERY GOOD THING for folks that like to remotely control their camera, or for folks that want to see a new Light and Motion still camera housing...:-)

Cheers

Exciting news. Looks like a great camera. I'm still enjoying my D70 and don't really need more. But I'm sure those that upgrade will have loads of fun with this. Hope the rumors of the AF module are correct.

The 18-200 VR deserves a good look though. This looks like an excellent walk around lens. I don't expect it to be nearly as good as the 70-200mm VR though. The zoom range is much too wide for it to have such good optics. Its also not a fixed 2.8 lens either. That's not a bad thing though. This lens covers the normal range as well as telephoto so its much more practical to leave on the camera. If it turns out to be sharper than the 18-70mm I may pick one up and use it for most of my topside shooting. This could be the perfect lens for hiking/backpacking. You could shoot landscapes, portraits and long distance animal shots all with one lens.

For what's its worth, my local Nikon distributer told me that D200/18-200DX VR will be out by late December. They got in a sample of the 18-200DX VR already (not sure about the D200 though) so if I have time tomorrow, I will go in and take a peak at it.

It will be great if the new Nikon D200 will fit on the D100 housing

I hope this one is OK optically as I agree it could be an OK all-purpose topside lens with VR, and WA to tele covered. The main plus, however, is that one would not have to swap lenses, which could be a good way to prevent spray from getting inside the camera where it could find its way to the sensor.

Looking at the picture comparing the back side of the D100 with the D200 above, I think the CF card is loaded on the side of the D200 instead of the back like the other Nikons. I hope there is a way to design housings that allow users to replace the card without completely removing the camera from the housing.

One can remove current camera CF cards with no problem from SEACAMs. The battery, however, requires camera removal!

A side door for the CF card will be great for Ikelite users

In Ike's housing the camera is mounts to the back plate, when I want to take out the CF card from the camera I have to unscrew the camera form the back plate, If the card door will on the side its will save this operation.

Thanks Arnon - my F80 housing works differently, so I didn't understand why it would be an advantage. Much appreciated

Looks like Chasseur d'Images have posted a story about the leak and some specs. No mention of the focussing module. Some rumours indicate only 1-3 cross-type sensors, rather than the 9 on the D2X.
