Lionfish43 0 Posted August 26, 2005 Rumors are flying on DP Review about a Sept 1 announcement by Nikon. Apparently there was a leak on the Finnish website interfoto - the link is now broken- but here is someones attempted translation: D200
Lionfish43 0 Posted August 28, 2005 Here's a quote from Tom Hogan: "Pretty good prediction. Comes close to what I'd predict right now: Sept 1: D200, 14mm f/2.8DX, 28 or 35mm f/1.4DX, 400mm f/2.8 VR, and a telephoto zoom VR. PMA 2006: D90, 500mm f/4 VR, new mid-range zooms. Photokina 2006: D3 with the crop as you suggest, 600mm f/4 VR, 70-200mm VR replacement, new macros? One would think that Nikon is driving towards the same kind of lineup that they had in film: N65 --> D50 N75 --> D70s N80 --> D90 F100 --> D200 F5 --> D3 -- Thom Hogan author, Nikon Field Guide & Nikon Flash Guide editor, Nikon DSLR Report author, Complete Guides: D70, D100, D1 series, D2h, D2x, S2 Pro http://www.bythom.com "
Kelpfish 15 Posted August 29, 2005 It would be really nice if it fit exisitng D100 housings Joe
james 0 Posted August 30, 2005 It sounds like it will be based on the F6 - so it will have similar dimensions to the D100, but not exactly the same. For anyone who's held the F6 - it's a fabulous body. A junior sized D2x with all the bells and whistles. Cheers James
Lionfish43 0 Posted August 31, 2005 The chatter is really heavy now. The major points of contention seem to be: Will the D200 actually be announced Sept 1? Will the sensor be CMOS based on the D2X or a new LBCAST? Mp 10 or 12? Consensus opinion seems to be that the body will be based on the F6 and that the AF willl be some variation of the CAM 2000. I quess we'll all find out tomorrow (or maybe we won't) but in he meantime it's fun to speculate. Just when I decided my upgrade path would be the D2X Nikon goes and makes my decisiion less clear. TimG 62 Posted August 31, 2005 If it fits in a D100 housing? Yeah right........ in my dreams.
Viz'art 24 Posted August 31, 2005 One thing if it's based on the F6 body as I anticipate, the layout should be about the same as a D2x, so a lot of the foot work is already done, that should help cutting cost somewhat,
Roulston 0 Posted August 31, 2005 Just got an update from my local Nikon dealer, wile negotiating to buy a 10.5m lens Caveat: As advised by the importation agent, take with grain of salt for flavour. The announcement date has been pushed out until the end of September, it will be a 10mp sensor, not the 12mp D2x sensor. That was enough for me to forget anout it. I would not make the investment required to change systems, housing etc from the D100 to the D200. If it were the same 12mp D2x sensor maybe, but not if it will only be 10mp. herbko 0 Posted September 1, 2005 I think a D200 announcement tomorrow, Sep. 1 is very unlikely. Phil Askey has not heard anything about a D200 as of today, Aug 31. http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp...essage=14851552
Alex_Mustard 0 Posted September 1, 2005 Nikon announced 4 new compacts today - the most interesting being the P1 WiFi - but no D200. Looks like we'll be waiting a while longer, yet. Here is an article on the Nikon P1: http://www.nytimes.com/2005/09/01/technolo...ts/01pogue.html Alex
Lionfish43 0 Posted September 1, 2005 I'm a little disappointed but not supprised that there was no D200 announcement today. I guess Nikon wants to keep us in suspense a little longer. Personally, I would not be unhappy with a new 10mp LBCAST sensor. I've been very pleased with the image quality I get with my D2H (LBCAST sensor) although at 4mp I often wish the files were a little bigger. A new 10mp LBCAST with better noise performance at high ISO would be of great interest.
Don Silcock 14 Posted September 2, 2005 I just got an email from a Nikon dealer in Hong Kong who reckons the D200 will be available around the middle of September with a price less than 12,500 HK$ which is roughly US$2150....
Don Silcock 14 Posted September 2, 2005 Sorry, thats A$2150 - which means about US$1610. Hope it's true....
Kelpfish 15 Posted September 3, 2005 I'd really like to see a D2X sensor in the D200. I agree with other comments that I will hold out for the D2X to come down in price a bit. I am tired of the low light noise in the D100. Joe
Lionfish43 0 Posted September 23, 2005 Nothing new on a date but this photo is the most convincing yet D200 link
Drew 0 Posted September 23, 2005 Well even if they announce it, it'll take months to get to the market. I'd get the D2X... they are now about $4k.

Lionfish43 0 Posted September 23, 2005 The grass is always greener! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I don't think that keeping an eye to what is coming in the future is necessarily a negative thing. I hear some sentiment to "just shoot what you have" but upgrade path is an important consideration in this day of planned obsolescence. I'm on the fence as to whether I should house my D2H and then upgrade to the D2X so I'm very interested in the D200.
Alex_Mustard 0 Posted September 23, 2005 I'm keeping an eye on the camera two. I certainly need a second body. And if the D200 had the D2X sensor and AF in a smaller body - it would be great. I really can't afford a second D2X at UK prices - although that would be my prefered choice as it would fit in the same housing! Alex
motionsync 0 Posted September 23, 2005 I am to keeping and eye on the Camera. If its really have a D2X Sensor & Autofocus I go with it if not I will hold on my d70 After my time in Greece I have really understand what a difference a great AF system can make. I have play on Land with a D2X and ... man this AF system just rocks!! Lambis
Viz'art 24 Posted September 24, 2005 I'm on the fence as to whether I should house my D2H and then upgrade to the D2X That my plan also, since getting the D2H, I hardly shoot with the D100's I have, so the day I move up to the "X" I will have my "H" back up body in hand already. Man, underwater photographer are either very rich or very much in debt ! Cheer's

Paul Kay 62 Posted September 25, 2005 Choices seems to be: Wait for new Nikon, wait for new housing, buy both and then carry yet another charger and more, different battery packs around, or Wait and buy a second D2X used as prices drop! To be blunt, I'm not upgrading my EOS1DS simply because it already delivers image quality in excess of what is usable most of the time, and it already shows up flaws in existant lenses - I suspect that the D2X is similar in both respects. There will always be a new camera coming out but unless someone really has something up their sleeve, then improvements are unlikely to be dramatic. Speculation is one thing but practicalities are another!
