My 2 new strobes have arrived, and I'm heading to the reef to shoot some wide angle stuff this Thursday. I'm not sure how to set up the strobes for a wide angle shot. After sniffing around the net, I came across this photo on the splashdowndivers site.

 

 

Is this a good example of how I'll want to set up my strobes for general wide angle shots?

 

I know I have to get out there and practice, but I at least want some point to start from, before making adjustments in the water.

 

Any advice?

Looks like a good starting place to me. Just be aware that for close focus wide angle you will have to point your strobes much more inward.

Looks pretty good. Also be careful when you are shooting near the bottom, especially in sand. You'll have to position your strobes much higher for work near sand (or, risk overexposure in areas close to the strobe).

the image below shows what you can expect for coverage (100°) when the diffuser is installed on the DS 125 (light fall-off should be less than an f/stop in the gray construction paper area).

 

The strobe arm in the image consists of two 8" sections and three joints. The arm span may total around 20" out from the lens port. The tape measure is 20" from the front of the flat port.

 

So in theory a pair of strobe arms similar to mine will evenly illuminate an area @ six feet across at a distance of 20" from the front of the port.

 

btw, there will also be light emanating from the DS 125 outside the gray area, but that light will measure more than an f/stop less than the center of the beam's light reading
