New INON strobes announced

Recommended Posts

I find it hard to understand or to guess what the difference between those two models is ('W' and 'Wn'). I assume power is identical to the D2000, meaning a bit less than the discontinued Z220 series? It has been hinted from Mark Rupert here that there is something more powerful (compared to Z220) in the pipeline. So I guess it was not about these new D2000 versions?

I had a look at the Japanese product pdf and found "20" where I expect the guide number to be.

I do hope they have something with more power in the works.

Herb, you mean a true "ISO50 strobe", right? :D

maybe a more powerful one without all the TTL-manual / TTL-auto, etc. stuff for compact digicams.

I thought the 220F was a new model!! Seems rather short-lived.

I wonder if Inon will work with Olympus so that this strobe will work with Oly cameras that have a bulkhead so that people will be able to get TTL directly. Although the conversion kits are a good work around to get TTL this might spark some greater interest.

This would be especially interesting because the Oly SP-350 seems to gaining some interest with some folks for underwater usage and being able to use the Oly housing might be a lower cost solution to get TTL.

I understand there is still no real feature information regarding these two new D2000 versions. I would assume that the Nikonos type bulkhead incorporates not more or less than Nikonos type electrical signals as the Z220 series did. So I assume there is no other sync cord TTL protocol (like Olympus TTL) implemented. I think the new D2000 models continue to offer TTL for digicams via optical connection and wired operation for DSLR cameras (no TTL) or Nikonos type cameras.

All I can tell you (so far) is that these strobes take the same 5-pin Nikonos (on the camera port end) cords (single or double) that the Sea&Sea DX90 does. I didn't realize that, ordered new sets cords with these strobes, and now find that I have a little more redundancy in the synch cord department than I hope I'll need (but experience suggests I will).
