Just got back from the Philippines and while we were there Super Typhoon hit the island nation and almost wiped out one of its top dive destinations - Malapascua Island. We were on the island the day before the typhoon hit (after a brilliant week of diving with Thresher Shark Divers) and road out the storm in Cebu City. But several days later found out from Thresher Shark Divers that the eye of this powerful storm crossed right over Malapascua and flatten the island, fortunately with no serious injuries to anyone on the island. While Thresher Shark Divers are already back diving and a number of the resorts have reopened, most of the local population have lost their homes, including the wonderful dive guides and support staff that work for the dive operators. Thresher Shark Divers have already been helping out the local population with accommodation, medicine and food, and have started on appeal to raise funds for the rebuild - with links on their Facebook page or visit http://www.youcaring...ndraiser/104505.
Another way you can support is to visit the Philippines and Malapascua Island on our next dive holiday, the island nation has spectacular diving that shouldn't be missed.
