In Topic: Singapore Hotels, eeny meany miney mo.....???

Have decided to take advantage of an extra night, for a total of two, in Singapore on the way back through from Lembeh in September.
Singapore Air offers some great deals on some 4/5 star hotels, among them , Marina Mandarin, Raffles, and Shangri La..
Any thoughts , preferences, favorites, recommendations, warnings, experiences, from those that may have stayed at any of these ,and would care to pass on??

Any help is sincerely appreciated.

Shangri La is OK, nothing to get excited about. Its main selling point is that it's right off Orchard Road (the far end), and so that much closer to the "Orchard Road Shopping" experience -- if that kind of thing makes you happy. (It's near the high-end stores like Paul Smith, DKNY, Prada etc.) I've always found it to be a bit dark and dingy, at least in the lobby area.

Marina Mandarin is OK as well. It's near the water, so if you do go this route get a room with a good view of the water as the foreground to Singapore's ever-changing skyline. This is pretty nice. You can also walk next door to the Oriental and have a steak at Morton's, or just go to the bar there between 5-7 p.m. and have free Morton's steak sandwiches during the martini happy hour. Lots of shopping at Suntec mall nearby.

As for Raffles, which one? The old Raffles Hotel is full of history and a wonderful place to stay. Raffles the Plaza is nice. And the Swissotel The Stamford is built on top of a mall with good shopping all around. Good views from here too if you can get a higher floor.

Lots of good food options at whichever hotel you choose. If given the choice, I would go with the Raffles option. But you won't go wrong with any of the three you mentioned.
