BONICA PRECISION #2137

October 23, 2008 - 5:15 PM

Bonica has updated their Snapper HD video housing and camera to support HD 1280x720 progressive (720p) at 30fps, and offers the package including a protective silicone skin for less than $1000USD. The optional wide angle wet lens has an equivalent field-of-view of approximately 70°, and can mount on any of the company’s recent housings. All housing controls are clustered on the rear of the housing, due to a design that utilizes the camera’s remote control and uses a fiber-optic cable to send the signal directly to the camera (thankfully, the package ships with a spare remote control!). The video camera runs for approximately one hour recording HD video, and available accessories for the silicone skin and housing include a belt clip, suction-cup mount, pistol-grip for surfing, and bicycle handlebar attachment.

Also on display was a new MT09 80° beam halogen video light, with 30W/40W/60W power settings and a Lithium Polymer battery that allows from 1-2.5hrs of burn time depending on the power setting. Extra batteries are available for purchase for quick swap-out and charging. A complete setup including the camera, housing, two lights, arms, wide-angle lens, and tray was stated to retail for less than $2400 USD and weigh less than 15 lbs.

Shawn Heinrichs records Bonica’s Michael Chan talking about the Bonica Snapper HD video housing and 60W video lights. The Bonica Snapper is interesting because it comes in a silicone case that is already waterproof up to 12’ (when outside of the underwater housing).
