Canon has formally announced their full frame mirrorless camera system featuring their new RF mount system. The first camera body, the EOS R, has a 30.3 MP CMOS sensor with a DIGIC 8 image processor. It has Dual Pixel AF and a native ISO range of 100 to 40,000. Recording is to a single SD card slot.

Nikon announces the Nikon 1 J5

Nikon has announced the Nikon 1 J5 mirrorless camera. It features a 20.8 Megapixel backside illuminated sensor, a native ISO range of 160–12800 and a hybrid phase and contrast AF system with 105 phase detection points. A command dial has been added to its controls, and an assignable Fn button. Lastly, it can shoot Ultra HD footage (3840 x 2160/15p).

The New York Times has reported that Nikon has cut its planned full year profit forecast. Executives have blamed the demise of the compact camera market, which has been usurped by the cameras on smartphones, and a lack of growth in mirrorless camera sales in the U.S.A. and Europe.

Product release: Sony NEX-3N

Sony has released details of its new NEX-3N EVIL camera. It has a 16.1 megapixel APS-C sized CMOS sensor with an ISO range of 200 to 16000. It’s form factor is similar to that of a compact camera with dimensions of 109.9 x 62.0 x 34.6 mm, a weight of 269g and a built-in flash. It will also shoot HD movies at AVCHD 50i/25p.

The NEX-3N will be available from March, with prices still to be announced
