The 2011 Diving, Resort and Travel Expo will be held from 8-10 July at the Hong Kong Exhibition Center. The event will host 130 exhibitors, and it is expected to have over 30,000 visitors. The event will be hosting an underwater photography competition with categories for behavior, reefscapes and conservation. In addition, the show plans to highlight the issues facing the conservation of the marine ecosystem, via professional seminars and promoting public dialog.

The deadline for entries to the competition is 18 June.

Diving, Resort & Travel Expo in Hong Kong

Hong Kong, June 20 2011. A very important Diving, Resort & Travel Expo (“DRT Show”) will take place on July 08-10, 2011 at the Hong Kong Exhibition Centre (at China Resources Building in Wanchai). The DRT Show features over more than 130 top-level exhibitors representing leading dive equipment manufacturers, water sport equipment manufacturers, dive resorts, tourism boards and diving organizations from different countries. Over 30,000 visitors are expected to attend the 3 days event. DRT show is the only event supported by Hong Kong Underwater Association (HKUA) and China Underwater Association (CUA).

The marine ecosystem is under threat. In response to this, the DRT Show will be dedicating a large part of the agenda to marine conservation. The global environment is at a crossroads. With rapid population growth and the build-up of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases from the burning of fossil fuels, many of our natural systems have been pushed to the breaking point by climate change. This is especially true to our ocean environment.

The oceans provide us with economic industries, shipping, tourism and adventure. Each of us has a collective responsibility to steward and protect our global ocean in the face of climate change and reckless human activities that degrade global marine environments. With this important subject on the agenda, the DRT Show will be a platform for educating the public about the causes, consequences and meaningful solutions to our marine environmental problems. This year, we will also special highlight the Japan tsunami disaster which happened a few months ago.
