UnderWater Camera Stuff ships new 5” Precision dome

Underwater Camera Stuff has announced the release of their fourth acrylic half-sphere 5” Precision dome. It is designed to match the lens nodal points of Sigma 15mm f2.8 EX DG and Nikkor 16mm f2.8 AF lenses when used with Ikelite housings and hence do not vignette. The other advantage of providing a specific port/lens/housing combination is that the manufacturers claim that the images are “in focus edge to edge”.

The Prec-5in-Sho-Ike dome is shipping now at a U.S.A. retail price of $495.

UnderWater Camera Stuff Releases Precision 5” Dome for Sigma 15mm

Dome design results in no vignetting with Sigma 15mm and Nikon 16mm Fisheye lenses

CINCINNATI, Ohio (September 2014) - UnderWater Camera Stuff announced the release of their fourth Precision 5” Dome. Like the other versions, this Dome is designed for use on an ikelite housing, is a half-sphere acrylic dome and uses the lens nodal point to calculate the dome position.

This newest Precision 5” Dome, the Prec-5in-Sho-Ike, is tuned for the Sigma 15mm f/2.8 EX DG and Nikkor 16mm f/2.8 AF Fisheye lenses. Having a dome tuned to a specific lens means that the images captured will be in focus from edge-to-edge.

The nodal point for the Sigma and Nikon lenses is very close to the camera. So close, in fact, that using even the shortest ikelite port body results in vignetting because the lens is seeing the port body.

The UnderWater Camera Stuff dome is designed so it does not vignette with full frame or cropped frame cameras. This was accomplished by integrating the port body into the dome. The dome shade is also integrated into the assembly.

The Prec-5in-Sho-Ike Dome joins the three previously-released dome versions (Prec-5in-Can-Ike, Prec-5in-Nik-Ike and Prec-5in-Tok-Ike) to work with more than 25 different lenses. The UnderWater Camera Stuff website displays the most up-to-date chart detailing the lens, dome version and port body(ies) you can use either with or without a 1.4 tele-converter.
