Video from the Canon 5DMkII
segal3 replied to Drew's topic in Shooting Technique, Workflow and Editing
Every "review" (or, whatever these one-day, hands-on impressions are called ) I've seen has noted this as happening...? -
Here is the discussion about the video functions with some video samples: http://wetpixel.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=26569

More video from Canon. And more (some overlap). -
Sealing looks like a light foam-rubber rather than actual rubber gaskets... I don't think you can extrapolate out like that - I think there may be a reason they listed it as a water/3min rating. Seals may saturate to an extent after that point...

If shooting manual strobes, have you removed the extra pins from the Seacam hotshoe connector? See Seacam's instructions. -
Our good friends over at Jim Abernethy’s Scuba Adventures have just had a last-minute cancellation for a shark expedition this coming month. The Bahamas shark trip is well known here at Wetpixel, but has historically been expensive and hard to get on because of limited availability. There is a significant discount on this trip, and it is rare for a spot to be available at such a good deal. Trip dates are September 19-25, 2008, and price is USD $1989.00. If you are interested, contact JASA immediately!

Best housing for Canon 1Ds Mark III?
segal3 replied to nathanm's topic in Photography Gear and Technique
You can still switch AF points quickly underwater with the aperture/shutter dials. The major feature lost is the ability to move around in a zoomed-in review image, which is not always necessary with the "zoom in to focus point" custom function enabled. -

Finalists have been announced for the 2009 Raja Ampat Entrance Tag Design Contest, hosted at Wetpixel.com. Vote for your favorite image or design -- the winning image will appear on Raja Ampat's 2009 park tag! Last year's winning image, a pygmy seahorse with its tail wrapped around a gorgonian branch, was shot by Alex Mustard, who won a week-long dive trip to Raja Ampat in addition to having his image attached to every diver who visited the park in 2008. The winner of the 2009 tag contest will win a week at Raja Ampat's original eco-resort at Kri. Public voting ends at 11:59 PM, September 25, 2008 (Pacific time). Be sure to log in to Wetpixel before you vote for your favorite image. We'll be awarding a free 1-year subscription of Wetpixel Quarterly to a random voter, but you must be logged in to play!

Philippines Wideangle - Filtered & Unfiltered
segal3 replied to james's topic in Photo / Video Showcase
Unfiltered (and direct from DPP) - both from Puerto Galera. -
Hi Graham - We stayed at El Galleon and dove with Asia Divers, the operator affiliated with the resort. The four of us were able to reserve a boat for ourselves (for the most part), so we might have had a little more freedom than most .

The correct link is: http://action.earthjustice.org/campaign/action_esandk_0808/ I've corrected Bryce's post as well. -
The commotion created by the divers and sharks did not go unnoticed - dungeness crab, shiner perch, ratfish, dogfish, and various flatfish all wanted a taste (literally!) of the action. The crabs seemed greediest, tearing away at the bait to no end. And when not eating, they took the time to attack their reflection in the dome port .

It looks like Wolfgang clarified his remarks: I was wrong previously about him actually using the transmitter in wireless mode as intended, but it still seems like an over-complicated setup - I don't see why he can't use a Firewire-CAT5 repeater on each end and set the camera up in tethered mode with either Canon's software or similar (C1, etc). All the instant-view capability, no transmitter required (especially since the wireless nature of the transmitter is not utilized!). -

We just talked to Rick and he said that you will need to bring a full tank for each dive (two tanks total). -

Speaking of which, I just ordered an X200 - too bad it doesn't have the built-in numpad like the W700.
