Sell, Ikelite 5D Mark 2 housing, dome port and camera. Housing has not been used since an overhaul and testing by Ikelite. I had a vacuum valve fitted in place of one of the control knobs. I recently changed to a Canon R5 and will miss this rig, $1500.

Hi, the question is more Ikelite vs something more expensive for a Canon 7d. I've practiced photography for many years, but this is my first foray into UW (besides action cams). I'm primarily looking at the used market and want to know what benefits I'd really get from spending a bit more on an aluminium housing vs the cheaper Ikelite polycarbonate option. Price is definitely an important factor, but if there are significant issues with using a plastic housing (i.e. fogging, less reliable) I would be willing to spend more. As a second part of the question, what are people's opinions regarding the different Al housings? I've seen several reviews of the Aquatica and the Nauticam, which seems to put the Nauticam on top. I am also located in Colombia (South America), meaning buying from the US is relatively easy, but from Europe expensive (where Hugyfot seems to be more available) Thanks for any advice.

I see that Nauticam sells an adapter to make Ikelite ports work with Nauticam N120 housings. My question is whether using this adapter is a good idea? I'm considering moving from an old Ikelite FL system to a Nauticam housing for my Nikon D800E. Obviously I'd save a lot if I could use my existing Ikelite ports with the Nauticam housing. But does that actually work well and is it a good idea in the first place? I searched the forums for this topic but couldn't find anything relevant. Perhaps someone here has experience with this adapter? Thanks, Mike

*Like New* IKELITE 200DL Housing Kit for Canon EOS R6 with case I purchased this housing last year for a dive project that fell through. Hey everyone! I am a wildlife photographer and diving enthusiast, and I finally want to combine both of these passions. I have to admit that I am a bit overwhelmed by trying to figure out all of the gear I’ll need in order to do so, and I am thus seeking a little bit of help with some questions and with ensuring I don’t make any mistakes buying my first round of gear. If I state anything wrong in my post please correct me, as I am here to learn! Camera I own a Sony a1 Camera. Lenses From my research, the 2 most important lenses for underwater photography are a wide-angle and a macro lens. I currently don’t own a macro lens, but I would probably buy the Sony FE 90mm F2.8 macro lens sometime in the future. For now, I want to start with a wide-angle setup. From my understanding, the Sony 16-35mm F4 is highly recommended. I already own the Sony - FE 16-35mm F2.8 GM and believe I should be able to find a suitable dome for it? Housing I have been researching different housing options and so far there are 3 housings I am debating: Ikelite 200DL Underwater Housing: This is the cheapest option, with the biggest downside being that it’s heavier and not as sturdy as a full aluminium housing. Nauticam Sony a1 & a7S III Underwater Housing NA-α1: The most expensive option. With Nauticam being the biggest player in the underwater housing world, it seems to be an amazing option with the only “downside” being the price and that it’s hard to fix any problems with it myself, since the internal workings are very complex. Aquatica Sony a1 Underwater Housing: Priced between the Ikelite and the Nauticam. What I currently think may be the best option for me- if anyone has any experience with this housing, or a reason I shouldn’t get it, I would love to know more! Strobes and TTL This is what I’m struggling most with. I tried to make a list of all of the gear I need for a full working wide-angle set-up with an Ikelite Housing and Ikelite Strobes: 200DL Underwater Housing for Sony a1, a7S III Mirrorless Digital Right Hand Quick Release Handle with Extension Vacuum Pump with Gauge ikelite DL 8" Dome Port for Wide-Angle and Zoom Lenses in DSLR and Mirrorless Housings ikelite DL 28mm Port Extension DL 50mm Port Extension Zoom / Focus Gear 5509.16 Ikelite Anti-Reflection Ring for Sony FE 16-35mm f/2.8 (Type I) GM Lens in Underwater Dome Port 2x Ikelite DS-161 Strobe with NiMh Battery DL2 DS Link Sony TTL Converter Ikelite ST1 Hotshoe Kit Sync Cord Two Ikelite Strobes to Ikelite Bulkhead 2x Wide Angle Ball Arm for Quick Release Handle So what I am not completely understanding is: Do I need the DL2 DS Link Sony TTL Converter Ikelite ST1 Hotshoe Kit and the Sync Cord Two Ikelite Strobes to Ikelite Bulkhead to make the Strobes and TTL work? If I use the Aquatica Sony a1 Underwater Housing, what would my set-up look like and what dome port can I use? Apparently, Aquatica works with Ikelite Strobes TTL? Do I also need the Ikelite Hotshoe Kit and Sync Cord or is something like this already included in the underwater housing? Could someone help me with a list of suitable strobes, the required cabels and TTL adapters and with a dome for the Sony - FE 16-35mm F2.8 GM when using the Aquatica Sony a1 Underwater Housing? Also, does it even make sense for me to invest this amount of money at the start and take my a1 underwater? Since I already own the G1 it feels like it, but I know it’s a big and expensive set-up. So far, I have only used a GoPro underwater and I was debating if I should start “smaller” before going for an a1 Housing. Maybe a point and shoot like the Olympus Tough TG + Housing or a cheaper Sony full-frame camera. Perhaps someone with a bit more experience could help guide me on what the best option is. I appreciate any help!

My Ikelite Strobe battery rebuild
K9Shadow posted a topic in Lights, Strobes, and Lighting Technique
I am getting all of my gear in fighting shape as I hope to get back to shooting underwater. I recently picked up a housing for my R5 and I pulled the strobes out to get them going. I have two DS125s and the battery packs are from 2007. Although they seemed to take a charge they didn't seem to be holding well. I also noticed a little deterioration on one of them which turned out to be the cells leaking a little. Luckily none of the electronics were damaged. Ikelite does not rebuild these anymore but is happy to sell you a new one for $250. I pulled them all apart to find 6 SAFT 3200 sub C 3000 mAh batteries. Searching high and low I struggled to find those exact cells, at least for anything less than $15 a cell. I believe these are now made by ARTS Energy. These are made in France. I ended up choosing cells from Tenergy. These are "made in China" which I was hoping to avoid but I have experience with Tenergy through other hobbies like RC boats and airsoft. I was able to get 15 of the 3000mAh cells from Amazon for $38. i used regular hot melt glue to hold the packs together for assembly. I believe the packs will be mostly held together by the housing once installed. I also bought a spot welder from Amazon for about $60 to attach the tabs. I bought the one from SeeSii based on reviews. It worked really well and went very quickly. I used the nickel tabs that came with the spot welder. They are a little thinner than the original but wider so hopefully it won't affect the current requirements. I tried to research as best I could and I believe the original cells are rated to 40 amp discharge and the Tenergy are either 30 or 38. It has both values listed on the website. I suspect the strobe won't use anywhere near that to charge up. Once I had the tabs installed and checked the fit it was time to solder the electronics to the batteries. I took these pictures with my cell phone and the quality of some are not great so I apologize. I then fit it all back into the case and screwed it back together. i am waiting on O-rings from Ikelite for the switch and the toggle. I charged them up and have them sitting with the focus lights on to drain them down. I tried the strobe function and they seem to charge at least as fast if not a little faster. At 1/2 power they kept up with low speed continuous shutter on the R5. I will add the final assembly details and photos probably next weekend once I get those O-Rings. So far I am about $115 in to both strobes including purchasing the spot welder. A savings of almost $400 over buying new packs. -

I would like to use Nauticam Shinobi with my Ikelite 200DL Underwater Housing for Canon EOS 90D DSLR. I installed Nauticam M16 Standard HDMI Bulkhead but I can not connect camera to the bulkhead inside the housing with the HDMI cables that are provided with the Nauticam housing. If I use "I" shape micro on the bulkhead, there is no space as it is going over camera controls (see photo). The second cable is "L" shape micro - that fits perfectly, but on the other end of the cable is also micro connector, and I need mini "L" connector. Is there any suggestions. I have spend 1 months looking for appropriate cable on the internet! Ikelite does not have suggestion. best regards, ante

Setting up new camera and housing. Can't get my strobes to fire. Setup details below. I just bought the Nikon Z7II Mirrorless camera and housed it in my first ever Nauticam housing (have been shooting Ikelite with previous DSLR cameras). Strobes are Ikelite DS160s (freshly back from servicing at Ikelite). I am using Sea&Sea SS-50128 F/O Sync Cord II M/2 fiber optic cables. Interfacing with the strobes using ikelite 4401.3 fiber optic adaptor. I can see the flash firing inside the housing by viewing with the fiber optic cables disconnected. Fiber optic cables seem to be fine as I see the fire at the non housing end of the cable when not connected to the strobes. I tested the strobes using Ikelites "shorting" method to verify the strobes are working (brand new batteries and fully charged). That leaves the fiber optic adapter as the culprit. Any insight/suggestions for troubleshooting or testing these adaptors? I am sending an email to Ikelite to see what insight they might have. Thanks, in advance, Lopes I can't get the strobes to fire. I have verified I am getting firing from the camera to housing as I am seeing the red flash through the fiber optic ports.

Selling a used Ikelite port extension for the FL (four lock) system. This is the extension for lenses up to 5.1 inches. Item number is 5510.28. Upgraded some gear recently and looking to sell some equipment. This would make the core of a nice starter for someone looking to get into the hobby. You would need a port and possibly an extension ring plus strobe arms for whatever lenses you wanted to use. Never had a flood or any problems with this gear. Housing serviced last year by Backscatter. Asking $1200 for everything. Included here are: Canon 5D Mark II (camera body only with 16gb CF card, battery, card reader, and strap) 5DII Aquatica housing (with Nikonos bulkheads) with extra o-ring and grease (serviced last year by Backscatter) 2 x Ikelite DS125 strobes with synch cords and universal chargers with international plug adapters Canon 10-22 mm and 16-35mm zoom gears Instruction manuals I might be willing to split up the kit. Not shown but also available are 2 Nikonos synch cords that I am looking to sell ($95 for the pair). Contact me with any questions. Regards, Chris

Hello, I'm selling my pair of Ikelite DS 160 strobes. They have only been used on one trip and are in like-new condition, with original packaging, documentation, etc. This also includes 2 extra batteries, and 2 fiber optic converters. I believe this would be around $2250 new. Asking $1500 shipped/insured (within the US), you pay any payment fees. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks, Todd

I am a professional photographer (see www.davidfleetham.com) and I’m selling this Canon 5D Ikelite housing because I have upgraded to the new mirrorless model. The housing includes everything you get with a new housing (some parts came with my new housing and have never been used). You get the tray and dual handle setup as pictured (from Ikelite/B&H you only get one handle) and Zoom Clamp/Sleeve and Zoom Sleeve, along with Ikelite’s SLR-DC Housing instruction manual and Quick Start Guide. The housing is USED and there are very few scratches and points of wear and nothing that would have any affect on it working properly, as it has for me. I have never had a single drop of water in the housing. If you have not used an Ikelite housing before, it is worth mentioning that this housing works with Canon’s TTL system with Ikelite’s strobes. This is an optional upgrade that I would highly recommend. The TTL is an impressive piece of technology that no other housing manufacturer has quite been able to duplicate and it is one of the main reasons I use Ikelite housings. The housing includes the vacuum port but not the pump. This is also worth adding. So the housing itself is what is available. No strobes. No cords. No ports. The housing is available new from Ikelite for $1695.00 or from B&H in New York for $1495.00. Both include only one handle. This one can be yours for $750.00. I have both the Canon 5D mark IV and The DS available. Both come with everything I got with each camera including the original boxes (see photos). The 5D mark IV is $1800.00 and the 5DS is $1500.00. If you wish to shoot video and still images the 5D mark IV would be best. If your focus is photos more than video the 5DS image files are huge and amazing. All items are available by themselves or together. Purchase the housing and a camera and I'll ship in US for free. Buy just one and you will pay just the actual Insured USPS Priority Mail cost. I will leave this up on WP for a while before putting everything on Ebay. Contact me with any questions you might have. david@davidfleetham.com or 808-283-1154

Looking to sell various dome, ports and extension for a previous Ikelite FL system. It has been unused for about 3 years so want to cleanup the closet and have someone make better use of it. There are obviously scratches on the outside of the plastic, it has been used for about 10 years. All of those were used on D7000 housing with Tokina 10-17, Nikon 12-24, Sigma 105 macro and Nikon 60 macro 5510.45 8" dome - Asking $150 (retail $400). 5510.11 extension (used for Tokina 10-17) - Asking $60 (retail $150) 5510.35 flat front (use for Sigma 105 and Nikon 60) - Asking $80 (retail $200) 5510.22 extension (used for Nikon 60 and Nikon 12-24) - Asking $70 (retail $175) 5510.54 extension (used for Sigma 105) - Asking $50 (retail $125) 5510.28 extension (used for Sigma 105) - Asking $80 (retail $200) I have some extra o-ring 0105 (port) and 0132.41 (dome) that I will happily include in packages. Condition unknown. Additionally, I have a Ikelite 6801.70 D7000 housing that I'm selling for.... $200 ( $1500 retail). It is in working conditions but the tip of the lever for the flash dial got broken, so would need to be replaced (I have never used this lever in 500+ dives). Given the time since last dive, it would need to be sent to Ikelite for maintenance ($200 service fee) and as it is for a D7000, thus the reason I'm only asking $200 for this housing. I'm based in NYC.

Hi. Long story short: Had bad strobe. Opened it up. See images. Full story: I discovered recently that one of my strobes was dead. I had seen fog inside the strobe during use earlier and just counted the days to the end. The strobe compartment had "melted" between my sporadic dives and unfortunately I had forgotten the battery attached, so it is damaged. Will see if I can fix it later. But for now I wanted to check what the inside looks like in an Ikelite DS125. I've done some repair previously on a DS51 and changed the cells in older DS125 battery packs as well as making my own circuit board for it so this was my missing piece of knowledge... Full album: https://imgur.com/a/GYW9p67 The culprit https://imgur.com/zyYjg7d Bought in 2006 or 2007. Had been repaired once earlier for a broken latch. BzyYjg7dBattery with a small recess https://imgur.com/FJsYtny Strobe head with the corresponding bulge: https://imgur.com/ci9Q8dI,https://imgur.com/ci9Q8dI Note the small hole in the melted plastic. To get inside then: I removed two small screws/nuts from the housing https://imgur.com/4Y3QQHe and then I just pulled. Unlike a DS51 there was no bayonet lock and it just opened. The small hole from earlier must have helped. Otherwise there would be too much of a vacuum to pull it apart. https://imgur.com/hHJEaWr Backside of the dark gray area with some cables and a hexagon for a nut to sit in to lock the aiming light in place https://imgur.com/k4TLAf0 Aiming light removed https://imgur.com/1ECx12S Power mode toggle removed https://imgur.com/LBkN3FS There is a small o-ring inside the hole, just like in the battery pack, to seal it. Could not get it out at the moment but it is there. Some brute force got the dark grey rubber piece loose from the strobe https://imgur.com/VjYUxou Now I'm getting stuff all over my table so a cut up paper bag have to serve as a cover. Four small screws (two countersunk, two not) held the transparent plastic in place. Unsure if the cracks are from manufacturing or usage. https://imgur.com/BzkrPYO With the transparent plastic removed https://imgur.com/BoECxQ3 https://imgur.com/thywlMJ https://imgur.com/1xHqjPO Another four small screw removed gets you to the the underside of the circuit board https://imgur.com/zu7CE1u The O-ring that seal the two halves of the strobe https://imgur.com/pefNQqm Insulating piece of paper that was next to the blue circuit board and the two capacitors(?) in the middle of the strobe https://imgur.com/yCpfLAr Some wires cut, to better see down the strobe head https://imgur.com/RIwUAKl Backside of the circuit board with the power mode toggle https://imgur.com/kkCiwt6 Nut that lock the aiming light in place https://imgur.com/ApfS6yK Flash tube cut off to see in between https://imgur.com/TVN6xEA https://imgur.com/nWTlJJ6 Connector for cable cut and removed.
