Wetpixel/Under The Jungle Cenote Workshop 2021

Seeking shipmates for an amazing adventure capturing underwater imagery in Egypt’s exotic Red Sea. Wetpixel is running a further two trips aboard the lovely VIP ONE on 03 to 10 September and then 10 to 17 September 2023. As is always the case, we will tailor the itinerary and boat’s activities around making both trips photographically productive.
Diventures Magazine is calling for entries to its 2022 Underwater Art (UWART) Photo Contest. It offers categories for Wide Angle, Behavior, Wreck, Compact Camera, Macro, and Art images. The deadline for entries is 3 October.
Issue 128 of Underwater Photography Magazine (UwP) is available to download. It features a report of the Digital Shootout and reviews of the Olympus OM-1, Marelux’s SOFT and 140mm dome and a Smartphone monitor. Techniques covered include snoot techniques and black backgrounds, while Cancun’s whale sharks and weedy sea dragons are also discussed in articles.
The increased availability of panorama stitching software within existing photo editing packages has added a tool to the underwater image maker’s arsenal. Alex and Adam discuss some creative ideas about how to take advantage of these new capabilities and offer some practical tips to help photographers.
As a teaser, the Natural History Museum has released a series of images that were awarded as highly commended for this year’s Wildlife Photographer of the Year contest. Check out some of the underwater/marine-related images.
Due to late cancellations, we have two spaces available on the Wetpixel Raja Ampat Photo Safari! The trip has been fully booked for some time and is on the amazing Damai. The BBC reports that the United Nations has failed in its attempts to pass a global ocean protection treaty for the fifth time. The proposed plan was to regulate commercial activity on the high seas, the area outside of national controls. The goal was to designate 30% of the world’s oceans as protected areas, but countries failed to reach an agreement about fishing rights and funding and support for developing countries.
The Underwater Tour Awards has partnered with Take 3 for the Sea to launch their annual photography contest. It features categories for: Underwater Characters, Underwater Scenes, Topside Scenes, Aquatic Abstracts, Underwater Black and White, and Reportage. It is open for entries now, with a deadline of 19 September.
