Nikon releases LUT for Z series cameras
Nikon has released a dedicated 3D LUT that works within the N-Log features with Rec.709 color space. The option of recording ProRes RAW via external HDMI that was announced at the Z series cameras’ launch, will now only be available after an internal upgrade that will need to be performed at a Nikon Service Center and will incur a charge.
Canon announces EOS 90D and M6 Mark II
Canon has announced two new mirrorless cameras. The EOS 90D and M6 Mark II both have 32.5 APS-C sensors, Dual Pixel AF and uncropped 4K video recording. The 90D has a more traditional shape, while the M6 Mark II is a lighter more compact design.
Sony announces two APC-C mirrorless cameras
Sony has announced 2 mirrorless cameras with APS-C sensors. Both feature a 24.2MP sensor, BIONZ X™ image processor and the front-end LSI from the company’s full-frame cameras. It has 425 focal-plane phase-detection AF points and 425 contrast-detection AF points. The Alpha 6600 offers a native ISO range of 100-32000.
Ikelite housing compatibility for Sony RX100 VII
Ikelite has released an information notice detailing the compatibility of their existing housing for the Sony RX100 VI (6116.18) with the new Sony RX100 VII. The advisory states that the housing is compatible although it may be necessary to slightly tighten the screw that attaches the rear dial control.
Ikelite ships housing for Nikon A1000
Ikelite is shipping their housing for the Nikon COOLPIX A1000 compact camera. The ABS-PC housing has curved levers for critical controls and 2 fiber optic ports for strobe triggering. It can be fitted with an adaptor that allows the use of 67mm threaded wet lenses.
Howard Hall and Jonathan Bird to release IMAX film
Howard Hall Productions have teamed up with Jonathan Bird’s Blue World to create a new IMAX production with a working title of “Secrets of the Sea.” Due for release in 2021, the team have already captured footage in California’s Channel Islands, Mexico, and the Philippines, with filming to continue through 2020.
CITES 2019: Makos need your help
The BBC reports that the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) has agreed to put forward protections for 18 threatened species of sharks and rays for ratification as additions to Appendix II. Included are mako sharks, guitar sharks, wedge fish, and teatfish.
Report: Wetpixel Whale Sharks 2019 part 2
Part 2 of our coverage of the 2019 Wetpixel Whale Sharks trip described the incredible encounters our second group had with huge numbers of whale sharks off Isla Mujeres. The action was amazing with several days when we had huge numbers of sharks and returned with empty camera batteries and full memory cards.
