A video about the work of Dr. Cliff Ragsdale, professor of neurobiology at the University of Chicago, has won an Emmy. The team sequenced the entire genome of the California two-spot octopus (Octopus bimaculoides), the first cephalopod ever to be sequenced. One of the biggest divergences from other invertebrates that the team discovered was much greater nervous system development, very similar to what is found in vertebrates.
i-Divesite has released the details of their Symbiosis hybrid video light and strobe. Available in two versions, the SS-1 has a 2000 lumen LED light with no LCD display, whereas the SS-2 has an LCD display and either a 1000 or 2000 lumen LED light.
Scott “Gutsy” Tuason captured this amazing image of a larvacean during a black water dive in the Maricaban Strait, Batangas, Philippines at 10 meters of depth. The picture shows a planktonic larvacean of the class Appendicularia, probably Oikopleura sp.
