Results: Digital Shootout 2019
Backscatter Photo and Video recently held their annual Digital Shootout at Little Cayman Beach Resort. It attracted 70 participants and 20 staff who had the opportunity to discuss photography gear, shooting techniques and best editing practices with each other and the instructional team. An important part of the Digital shootout is the end-of-event photo and video contest. Congratulations to all the participants and to the winners.
Inon ships Quick Mount brackets
Inon is shipping a new range of Quick Holders and a Rotatable YS Extension Bar. The former allows the mounting of compatible Inon lights and strobes onto a YS mount via a quick-release bracket. The rotating extension gives a 360° swivel mount to accessories.
Microsoft releases Raw Image Extension
Microsoft has released a RAW image extension that allows users to view most Raw image files natively within Windows apps like File Explorer and the Photos app. The extension requires the Windows 10 May 2019 Update.
Field Review: ONEUW 160X Strobe by Alex Mustard
After extensive testing in the Egyptian Red Sea, Wetpixel Associate Editor Alex Mustard shares his thoughts on the ONEUW 160X strobes. He describes them as being a beautifully engineered and high specification strobe, with sufficuent power output to light wide-angle scenes and split shots with full-frame cameras.
Seacam ships housing for Nikon Z6 and Z7
Seacam is shipping their Silver housing for the Nikon Z6 and Z7 mirrorless cameras. Designed for use either with or without the Nikon FTZ adaptor, it also utilizes Seacam’s existing standard port system, so offers lens support for most Nikon F and Z mount lenses. The housing provides access to all camera controls.
Canon announces new G Series compact cameras
Canon has announced two new Powershot G series compact cameras. Both feature 20.1 MP 25mm (1 in) sensors, DIGIC 8 image processors and a native ISO range up to 12,800. The G7 X III features blogging friendly features, while the G5 X Mark II is designed for travel photographers.
July issue of X-Ray magazine available
X-Ray Magazine’s July issue is now available to download. It features articles on South Africa’s Sodwana Bay, Southwest Halmahera, Japan’s Honshu, Lake Zurich, and cave diving is Albania. It also features a portfolio of Gerry Miles’ paintings and discusses Rembrandt lighting techniques.
Preview: ONEUW 160X strobes by Don Silcock
Wetpixel columnist Don Silcock offers his first impressions of ONEUW’s 160X strobes. Don was able to test them during a 15 day trip around Southern Australia and has tested them against his existing Sea&Sea YS250 strobes. In addition, Wetpixel Associate Editor, Alex Mustard has been testing them in the Red Sea, and we will be posting his results shortly….
